UC Berkeley Coalition Rep.
Jasel Steinmetz is a UC Berkeley member of the UC CalCompute Coalition and a member of the university’s Class of 2025, where she is double majoring in Political Science and Legal Studies with a minor in Spanish Language, Literature, and Culture. A Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship recipient and a Schaeffer Fellow, she brings a public-service and policy orientation to the coalition’s work on California’s publicly owned AI infrastructure.
The granddaughter of Mexican immigrants, Jasel discovered her commitment to social-justice advocacy early. Driven to serve her community, she has led voter outreach and canvassing to amplify Latine representation and helped catalyze educational policy reform by piloting Ethnic Studies and restorative-justice training in her district.
On campus, she has served as a Legislative Aide within the ASUC and as Social Justice Chair of the pre-law fraternity Kappa Alpha Pi. As a JusticeCorps student-member in domestic-violence and housing clinics, she helps self-represented litigants navigate and access the legal system.
A UC Berkeley advocate focused on equity and access, Jasel supports CalCompute’s mission of building AI infrastructure that serves the public interest.
